Automated External Defibrillators (AED) are portable electronic devices that automatically diagnose and treat life threatening cardiac arrhythmias that cause cardiac arrest. Defibrillation is the application of electrical therapy which allows the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm and can save a life.
L2BH devices can be housed in a grab bag, indoor cabinet or unlocked external cabinet. Wherever possible our preference is to house a device externally (and always unlocked) so that it is available for use 24/7. We supply all the necessary kit with every device. We never place a device without Emergency Life Support Training to ensure that each community has the confidence to act when a life threatening situation arises.
All L2BH devices are registered on our database to ensure that their consumables (batteries and pads) are up to date and in full working order. We encourage all communities in Scotland to register their devices with the Scottish Ambulance Service. This allows Ambulance Call Handlers to direct bystanders to the device in an emergency.
We also work with the major Apps (GoodSAM and Crowdsav) to make our devices available to everyone who may need to access them.
If you already have a L2BH device within your community, please download our 'Guide to Keeping Your Defibrillator Rescue Ready'. If you are aware of a device that is not being regularly checked and may not be rescue ready, let us know. We also run a defibrillator adoption agency: Contact Us!
THANK YOU!
In return for supplying equipment and training we're very grateful for the many donations we receive. Every penny donated helps us to place and maintain devices and to keep training as many people as we possibly can.
